What Does an Oppo Really Pay For a Car?

Oppo, it seems like the relevance of money has come up in a few posts over the past couple of months when people are talking about affordability. I figured I would make a poll so the members of Oppo can answer what they paid for their most recent car/cars and then we can see what the average Oppo does actually purchase. This might make it easier when people ask questions such as “should i buy x, y, z” so we can see where the average Oppo is financially when purchasing a car! Beautiful 911 for your time.

P.S. I dont know how to embed polls if anyone could show me that would be great.

I dropped two votes. My ‘main’ car, I have spent between 25-35k on. While my ‘fun’ or project cars, I won’t spend more than 10k on.

Right now I have my ‘16 STi (35k) and my RX-8 (9k).

Good idea. I keep assuming I’m talking to younger folks with lower budgets, unless I know the poster is one of the wealthier ones.

Also I immediately gravitated to the Camaro’s price bracket since I made a payment last week, but more accurately my “last car” was a $3000 beater Blazer in July.

I’ve owned (or leased) vehicles anywhere from 75 bucks on up to almost 50k for the Sierra I’m currently leasing, and everywhere in between. Some of my absolute favorites were far from the most expensive.

I don’t know if there is an average OPPO, and I think that’s why I like it here so much. You’ve got guys with $100k+ cars and guys with $1500 Craigslist specials. And for the vast majority of the time, there is no judgement about either group, just enthusiasm about others’ passions.

That being said, interested to see the poll results!

I have 11 cars at the moment. The most expensive is creeping up towards 150 grand. The cheapest is worth about 250 bucks. Last summer I bought a $50 Subaru, but I killed it and gave it away. I feel like kind of a microcosm of Oppo. As a whole, we’re all over the goddamn map. That’s why I like it here.

Right now I seem to be in the majority 5k/10k. Granted that is what I am planning on spending this summer. This will be the first car I have ever bought on my own.

Oppo is great exactly because of how varied the community is. My daily driver stickered at like 120, and there’s plenty of people on both sides of that here. I know of one in particular who owns well over 1-2 million worth of cars. Including a 918.

I’ve got 3 cars, my XR and my Chevy Blazer. I’ve spent less than $5k total on both cars. The XR has delivered a lot of fun, plenty of memories, and has been interesting enough to grant me some places on the Front Page. The Blazer is great in snow and hasn't let me down once. You don't have to spend a lot on cars, you just have to find the right ones.

I have a mk6 Golf TDI. Paid $18k around 2-3 years ago. Before that I had a Ducati M695 that was $9k and 3 e30's all valued under $3500 ea. Just for reference, I'm 28.

The “last car” that I bought is my beater work truck, an ‘02 F150 for $3200. My DD is a ‘10 Foz XT purchased new in 2010 for $25k-ish.

$0

It was a gift, I am very fortunate for that. As much as I wanted to get something new, flashy, and quick, right now the best car is a reliable car with no payments, which I have.

That said, I never stop looking for something new; I’ll usually find one then the maths of life tend to rule it out for one reason or another.

I typically spend about $2500, but my wife’s R500 was just under $14k and I’m planning on buying an E55, the seller is asking $10k but they has been no talk of price yet.

My truck stickered at ~$50k, leased for <$400/mo because rebates.

Bike has been paid off for a while, but will be getting new one next month once I make up my mind what I want. It will be in the $15k-$20k range.

I guess that depends on your definition of “spend”. My most recent aquisition was free - a hand-me-down minivan from my parents that I use for my side business - but I had to dump about $1500 into it to get it to pass state inspection - mostly rust repair and 2 dry-rotted tires.
